Treatment of a sexual aversion

SUMMARY

Patient of 28 years of age that initially attends the therapist alone. She asks for treatment due to difficulty during intercourse relations. From the beginning of her sexual relations to the present time, she has not been able to achieve penetration. This has happened both with her current partner and with other previous sexual partners. Although the patient’s demands seem to indicate a primary vaginismus, the subsequent development of the therapy and its implication with a case of family sexual abuses in the childhood, among other factors, direct to the diagnosis and the treatment towards sexual aversion. The treatment of the sexual dysfunction is carried out by means of cognitive techniques, systematic desensitization, and relaxation, involution of the pleasure, sensorial focalization and cognitive-behavioural therapy.
