Results of a survey on sexual education and sexual habits of the Galicians

SUMMARY

Objetive: To know how a group of Galicia live and express their sexuality.

Study design: Transversal, descriptive study.

Emplacement: City of Pontevedra and the north of its province.

Subjects: 300 male and female individuals over eighteen years who went through a medical checking at Urology, Andrology, Endocrinology, Familiar Planning Center divisions, staff of our hospital and local civil servants were included in the study.

Principal measurements: After an oral informed consent, they answered a questionary of twenty-five questions about sexual education and sexual habits.

Results and conclusions: We found a high degree of sexual unsatisfaction (53.7%); difficulties to reach the orgasm (15.9%) and erectile dysfunction (including a 43% of patients with sexual dysfunctions). Besides, 24.4% of patients under 47 had some degree of erectile dysfunction; 35.6% expressed a low sexual desire and 53% had 1-3 sexual intercourses per week. Out of them, 7.7% would feel very uncomfortable if they had a homosexual child. The sexual information still comes from friends (62.8%). If they have higher studies, they showed a more satisfying sexual life.
