Social and epidemiologic aspects of syphilis and AIDS
J.J. Vilata Corell
SUMMARY
Sexually transmitted infections (STI) continue to be a public health problem, in that they resurge periodically due to population movements, supplies of sexual tourism, lack of information to adolescents, prostitution forced in underdeveloped countries and other factors inherent to human behaviour. Their complications and sequels are worrisome and sometimes very serious if they are not treated correctly. Together with the resistance of antibiotics and antiretroviral drugs, the behaviour with these diseases is still worrisome for the clinician, the patient, his/her partner, children and acquaintancies. The lack of interest or resources for these diseases of the public health system of many countries, causes the population to be unaware about them and about the importance that they can have both for the individual and the community health.
KEY WORDS
Syphilis, aids, sexually transmitted diseases, sexually transmitted infections.
