SUMMARY

Objective: The object of this research is to identify, through PRECEDE model, the most important variables to explain risk heterosexual behaviours in young people.

Design: Analytical-descriptive transversal study. Emplacement: Galizian community.

Participants: A total of 731 Galizian young people aged from 14 to 20, selected by means of a multiphased sampling by conglomerates. A total of 158 youth refuse to participate, determining a rate of response of the 82,2%, there people were replaced by individuals with the same characteristics, placing the sampling error in a 3%, with a reliance interval of the 90%.

Main measurements: The dependent variable was “the use of condom in the vaginal coitus in the last six months”. The independent variables (sociodemographic, knowledge, attitudes and sexual practices) were grouped in three classes of factors just as it is proposed in the PRECEDE model: predisposing, reinforcing and enabling. The variables were subjected to an analysis of hierarchical logistics regression (backward method). Appealing to the statistical of Nagelkerke to measure the percentage of variability explained from the last function in relation to the dependent variable.

Results: The logistic models select the variables: the intention of use of condom, the previous behaviour (use of condom the first and the last coitus), and speak about sexual behaviours with the couple, which act as factors that favour the habitual use of condom. Also, the use is associated to have casual partners and have a few coital sex. On contrary, when older bigger knowledge about the safe practices, and monogamous relationships less systematic use of the condom.

Conclusions: The results confirm the utility of PRECEDE model to develop diagnostic of sexual behaviour.
