SUMMARY
Objective: To know the pressure ulcers (PU) incidence in an intensive care Unit (ICU), before and after the improvement of a prevention protocol.
Method: Descriptive and comparative study wich includes the totality of patients who developed PU post-admission in two study periods: 2000-2001 and 2002-2005.
Conclusions: The UP incidence rate was significantly higher in the second study phase. The improvements in the prevention protocol did not show a decrease of the UP incidence rate. It is essential to know the registration and the protocol were carried out in order to introduce aspects of improvement.
