SUMMARY
To identify the functional ability of a group of elderly measured through the activities of daily living and perceived health.
Method: A descriptive study of retrospective in a geriatric nursing home with a total of 156 elderly. The sample was composed of all residents at the time of the study were rated by the nurse.
Results: The demographic profile is a resident of an average exceeding 75 years. The 71.3% of residents are women. The activities of the Barthel Index reflecting greater reliance are “washed” and “up and down stairs” and the least “to eat”. The perception of health by Coop-Wonca reflects a perception “regulate” or “bad” in most cases. A higher degree of physical limitations to activities of daily living more negative perception of health.
Conclusions: The use of standardized instruments for the integrated geriatric assessment allows us to swiftly detect the status of the elderly as a whole, thus improving the quality provided, as well as implementing an action plan interdisciplinary.
