Attitude
of the retired teachers about their aging process

SUMMARY
Descriptive and relational
study whose purpose was to know the attitude of old people about
their aging process. The sample was made up by a group of 72 retired
teachers from the conmunity of Talca, Chile 85% of then were females
and 15% males. They belonged to the retired teachers association.
The instrument to collect data was the Tuckman and Lorge’s
attitude scale, Lowton’s index to meassure activity of diary
life and the percived health scare. This study was based on the
model developed by Rosenberg and Hovland. In the process and analizis
of data it was used theSPSS PC Program in order to obtein the statistical
significance for the study.
Betwen the conclusion, it could be emphasize that the used theorical
model allowed to obtain answers to the enquire questions. The attitudes
of the retired teachers about this own aging process is neutral
and don’t get involved with a specific position.
In relation to the perceived health women have a better
perception about it and finally the study emphasizes that the whole
sample are independent in the diary life activities.
The knowledge obtained is very important for nursing
in order to make more effective interventions increase the life
quality of this elderly groups.
