of the nursing consultation to the geriatric nutrition

SUMMARY
Within Virginia Henderson’s
theoretical frame, the nursing profession is obliged to give an
answer to those problems that may drive an ancient to a situation
of denutrition.
Aims: Explaining how the nursing product of the
nursing consultation of the nutrition unity can help to the improvement
in the nutritional situation of geriatric patients.
Material and methods: In year 2000, 323 patients
were taken care in the consultation, and 197 were older than 65,
to whom the following methods were applied:
1) Evaluation of the nutritional situation.
2) Nutritional information and education.
3) Instauration of the necessary ways of approaching.
4) Delivery of informative documentation.
5) Delivery of nursing file.
6) Providing of consumable material.
7) Logistic support.
8)Making some inquiries about the acceptance of informative documentation.
9) Periodical reviews.
Result: 197 taken care patients, 91 men, and 106
women. Average age 81’75. Most frequent pathologies: Neurologic
140, tumoral 48, others 9. Access tracts: nasogastric tube 106,
gastrostomy 7, jejunostomy 1, orally 83. Acceptance of care triptych
inquiries: Given triptychs 54, made inquiries 48, positive evaluations
47, negative evaluation 1. Reviews 902, from which 570 were catheter
patients and 332 orally.
Summing up: Our care model cover patients expectations,
improving their nutritional situation, their welfare, and resolving
any doubt and emergency situation with the information given, taking
into account the information collected in our inquiry.
