| Use of massage as a therapeutic technique in elderly people caregiving and as a way of communication through the nursing process

SUMMARY
It has been proved that communication based on human contact and its affectivity is part of basic human needs. The act of touching can have a great impact on elderly people response to a certain situation.
Simple massage, acupressure, and reflexology are activities based on touch had proved as scientifically valid. According to this, they have to be integrated into nursing processes, being part of the comprehensive and holistic care of elderly men for it can help naturally to improve physical and emotional problems associated with the process of aging.
In Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), simple massage and acupressure are considered to belong to Nursing, and included in some diagnoses. Taking into consideration the characteristics of the process of aging, we considered that reflexology’s realization must be included, and that the kind of massage must be extended to other nursing diagnoses, which usually appear in elderly patients, as to be used in daily life as a part of the care.
