Beatriz González Cueto, M. A. Moreno Gutiérrez, M. D. Rodríguez Medina, F. Morales Luque, J. Navas Moreno

SUMMARY

The occurrence of eating disorders in Alzheimer patients, sometimes at very early stages, significantly influences the fulfillment of other basic needs in these patients. The objectives of this study were to identify the most common eating disorders and to evidence which ones characterize each stage in the dementia progression with a group of care-giving family members. Two workshops with three focal groups of care-giving family members belonging to the Malaga Association were organized. According to the analysis of the findings, care.giving family members managed to return inadequate diet problems to normal, blocking the establishment of a dangerous association with more significant issues. As care providers, we must act early in a formative way, specially to avoid progression of these disorders.
