Prevalence and characteristics of pressure ulcers in a concerted hospital

SUMMARY

  Pressure ulcers are a frequent problem in bed patients and with risk’s factors having negative repercussions for the patient and their environment. In our Hospital they also suffer pressure ulcers and with the purpose of deepening in their knowledge, the present paper was marked as main objective knowing the prevalence of patient with pressure ulcers. And as secondary objectives to know the distribution of risk’s factors that they present and to know the pressure ulcers characteristics in our hospital. It’s carried out a descriptive study of traverse court January 18 2000 in all the services of hospital. The study population was those entered that they gathered the inclusion approaches. The variables collections went relative to the patient and relative to the pressure ulcers. As measures of frequency the punctual prevalence, inside punctual prevalencia, outside punctual prevalencia, average, typical deviation and median were used. The data were picked up by means of questionnaire by the nurses of each service, they were tabulated and they treated by computer.

  Of the 107 valued patients 19 presented pressure ulcers with a average reading on the Norton Scale of 8.79 and a superior age to 75 years being the prevalence of 17.8%, The inside prevalence of 10.2% and 9.28% the outside prevalence. 66 UPP was counted corresponding a stocking of 3.47 for ulcerated patient. Have an accident vascular cerebral it’s the main entrance reason in having ulcerated followed by pressure ulcers and breathing infection. Those of degree II prevail and localization in sacrum. The entrance reasons guide on the to be sore level and the high dependence degree becoming necessary to impact more in the prevention as well as to favour the coordination among the different assistance levels. .
