Perceived satisfaction in old people care
Sotto Mayor M, Ribeiro O., Paúl C.

SUMMARY

Informal caregiving to the elderly is intrinsically associated to the presence of both difficulties and satisfaction, though this last dimension has been less systematically researched. The present study aims to compare two different caregiving situations (dementia vs. stroke patients) in what regards the presence of positive aspects as measured by the Carers’ Assessment of Satisfaction Index – CASI. The sample includes 70 dementia caregiving situations and 44 poststroke caregiving situations. Main results reveal the presence of satisfaction in both caregiving groups. The need for multidisciplinary assessment and intervention strategies in order to better reach the role’s personal meaning and its public visibility are discussed.

KEY WORDS

   Satisfaction, caregivers, elderly, dementia, stroke.
