Structural changes and competence make possible the visibility of the invisible role of nursing in the health system
Manuel Quintanilla Martínez ,María Isabel Fernández Cano

SUMMARY

The nursing collective is not an example of corporativism. Nurses are not really involved in the defense and the consolidation of nursing as a profession. Maybe this situation is due to the high rate of women among the peoble who practice nursing. Although this is an hypothesis that can be questioned. We intend to show that the institutional and structural changes demanded by society, and the organizational changes, demanded on behalf of the welfare system, would allow to eradicate the invisibility of the nursing collective imposed altogether by the very same nurses, other health professionals, the institutions and society.

KEY WORDS

   Nursing, profession, invisibility, visibility.
